project: Sonoma Creek Revegetation Project

This project incorporates the control of non-native invasive plant species with revegetation of native species along the middle reach of Sonoma Creek (Maxwell Park to Riverside Drive). Control methods have been concentrated on Arundo donax, or Giant Reed, an invasive Bamboo like grass that invades streamside areas, crowds out native plants, is very flammable, and can cause flooding. With this project we are able to control for other invasive weeds that will likely invade after the Arundo is removed and to revegetate with native plants, resulting in improved wildlife habitat.

Invasive species will be monitored and controlled over a two year period. Seed and native plant cuttings will be collected from the area and propagated for revegetation.
